My procedure is to develop a full scale drawing of the subject along with numerous smaller sketches of background elements. This can often be accomplished in three to six sittings. The drawing is then transferred to canvas or wood panel and the painting commences utilizing the drawings, color notes and photographs as reference. Additional sittings are always welcome (if the client is available) and the portrait is generally developed in a way that the client is able to watch the picture progress. This way, there are no surprises… comments and suggestions by the client are noted and discussed until all parties are pleased. Delivery of the finished portrait is typically within twelve months of the initial sitting.

A deposit of 50% is required before sittings begin and is non-refundable after the first sitting, the balance being due upon completion and approval of the portrait. A 10% retainer will reserve a place for you on my schedule. The retainer fee is non-refundable unless I am unable to carry out the commission, and will be deducted from the initial deposit on the portrait.
